Scope Of Work
DPWorld’s open tender for Capital dredging and Maintenance dredging works was awarded to NMDC in early 2012.
The capital dredging at berths 14 & 15 was very challenging as the seabed material turned into fines and when mixed with water, it just drained out from the hopper barges used to transport them to the disposal area located almost 30 Km offshore. After settling down at the seabed it slowly consolidated again. Various techniques were used by our experienced project team to successfully overcome this challenge .
One of the main challenges in that project was the heavy Marine Traffic in Jebel Ali Port, which had a major effect on maintaining continuity of our operational hours.
Another challenge while dredging close to the quay wall was the debris which could be left behind by the quay wall construction contractor or by vessels docking at the port. This debris included material ranging from small concrete chunks to long strands of steel cables, wires and ships ropes.
