Scope Of Work
ZADCO, a subsidiary of ADNOC, awarded NMDC the project of building four industrial islands in the Zakum Offshore field. This project was a part of ZADCO’s plan for developing the petroleum operations of Zakum to enhance oil productivity.
The contract awarded to NMDC amounting to AED 2.3 billion. consisted of:
- 23,500,000 m3 for dredging and leveling operations.
- 23,500,000 m3 for ground amelioration.
- 7,000,000 tons of stones, artificial fabrics and concrete units for beach protection works..
- 90,000 Units, 270,000 m3 of Concrete Armour Units.
- 1,720 m of Quay wall
- Four ports and protective breakers.
The artificial islands are falcon-shaped, with dimensions of 710m or 650m by 480m for the satellite islands and 1,200m by 600m for the central island. The islands are located in an offshore oil field with a depth ranging from six to thirteen meters.
The scope also includes the design and construct of a turn-key camp on one of the islands to facilitate quality accommodation for 1,000 people working on the islands, including all auxiliary buildings and infrastructure. This includes amongst others an accommodation building and office, kitchen and mess hall facilities, recreation area, mosque and a clinic. The built up area amounts to approximately 15,000 sq mts. Furthermore, a 3 sq km-lane road has been constructed. A small power plant has been set up, alongside a sewerage treatment plant and a reverse osmosis plant to make the camps self-sufficient.
NMDC engaged more than One hundred different marine plant on the project comprising of; Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers, Cutter Suction Dredgers, Rock Positioning Pontoons, Rock Transportation Barges, Backhoes, Wheel Loaders, Bulldozers, and Excavators.
